I am pleased to report that our newly launched quarterly Professional Accountant magazine has completed its first year, delivering a quality publication that represents the voices of professional accountants and the SMEs of Canada.

I am honoured to be the founder and inaugural publisher of Professional Accountant magazine, a national publication of Canada’s accounting profession and its SMEs, printed quarterly and distributed across Canada and globally. It will not only feature news and academic articles; it will also preserve the history of the accounting profession in Canada, a history that has, for reasons of its own, been neglected.

Now you have the Fall 2026 issue in your hands, focused on tax, accounting software, and artificial intelligence technology companies, with a cover story profiling the Honourable Andrea Khanjin, MPP and Ontario’s Minister for Red Tape Reduction, who is working hard to reduce the regulatory burden on SMEs and the people of Ontario.

Canada is going through a difficult economic period amid a trade and tariff dispute with the United States. This dispute has united Canada to stand up for our sovereignty and freedom, with Canadians fully behind Prime Minister Mark Carney and our federal, provincial, and municipal governments. These challenges also bring opportunity, pushing our government to open new trade doors and reduce our dependency on the United States. Registered Professional Accountants are fully prepared to help SMEs through these trade challenges.

“This trade and tariff war has united Canada in a way few recent events have — Canadians are standing up for our country’s sovereignty and freedom.”

RPA Canada is growing, at home and globally. Our Pro Achieve 2026 fast-track program brings undesignated accounting practitioners under RPA discipline, and our accounting practitioner certification training program at the University of Toronto Mississauga campus prepares practitioners to serve SMEs with knowledge, confidence, accountability, and ethical standards.

On Saturday, October 24, 2026, RPA Canada will host its 48th Annual General Meeting and 8th RPA Women Entrepreneur Awards at the Hyatt Place Hotel in Mississauga, coinciding with small business celebrations, including the Empowering Women Gala Cocktail Reception and Awards Dinner.

RPA Canada’s Public Advocacy program also continues to move forward strongly. An advocacy luncheon “Accountants for Small Businesses” at the Queen’s Park Legislative Assembly was a great success, with leaders from all political parties, including Premier Doug Ford, commending RPA Canada’s work in serving SMEs and protecting the public interest.

As we close out our first year, I thank our members, practitioners, students, readers, and partners for their trust and support. Together, we will keep building a stronger accounting profession for Canada’s small and medium-sized businesses.
